MOLD INSPECTION
A mold inspector will first look for sources of excessive moisture or humidity. Dampness and humidity are the main conditions that spark mold growth. Possible sources of excess moisture are leaky pipes, leaky roofs and improper water drainage, for example, from downspouts that deposit water next to the foundation of a building. A mold inspection involves searching from roof to basement for water leaks, condensation and improper ventilation. Sometimes mold is not readily visible if it forms behind walls or in ceiling tiles. A mold inspection from Strictly Business Mold Inspection can spot the sources of mold even if they are hidden.
A mold inspector will also look for condensation around cold water pipes, windows, exterior walls, roofs and floors. Adding insulation often prevents mold growth caused by condensation.
A mold inspection involves searching behind and underneath materials such as carpeting and pad, wallpaper, vinyl flooring, sink cabinets and furniture. Areas where items are stored, especially near outside walls and on cold floors, are frequently found to have mold growth.
Mold can be found almost anywhere growing on virtually anything. Carpeting, paper, wood and foods are favorite mediums for mold growth. It is virtually impossible to prevent all mold growth. Excessive growth can cause health problems and damage or stain materials. A mold inspection will seek out visible mold growth (may appear cottony, velvety, granular, or leathery and have varied colors of white, gray, brown, black, yellow, green). Mold often appears as discoloration, staining, or fuzzy growth on the surface of building materials or furnishings. A mold inspector looks for signs of excess moisture or water damage: water leaks, standing water, water stains, condensation problems. And just follow your nose. Mold emits a musty smell that is unmistakable.
